That is why 18-hole lead-acid batteries are sold at 22–26 Ah — half of an AGM’s rated capacity is unusable at these currents. Lithium LFP delivers nearly its full rating, so a 16 Ah lithium pack covers 18 holes with margin, and 30–36 Ah covers 36 holes even on a windy links course.

Weight Is a Playing Advantage

A 22 Ah AGM weighs about 9 kg; a 16 Ah LFP pack weighs 2.4 kg. Lifting the battery in and out of the boot twice per round is where most golfers feel the difference, but the trolley feels it too: less mass means lower motor current on slopes, which stretches range further than the raw Ah suggests.

Connector and BMS Pitfalls

Trolley brands love proprietary plugs — T-bar, Torberry, Anderson SB50 — and a mismatched connector is the top cause of returns. Check your plug before ordering, not after. On the BMS side, insist on a 30 A continuous rating with a 60 A pulse allowance; hill starts trip weaker boards and the trolley cuts out mid-slope. Finally, avoid packs without low-temperature charge protection if you play through winter: charging a cold-soaked pack in an unheated garage is what quietly kills marketplace specials.

What Distributors Should Ask a Factory

If you retail trolley packs, the warranty is only as good as the cell source. Ask the factory which grade-A cell brand is inside and request the incoming-inspection reports; repackaged B-grade cells are the main reason marketplace packs fail in season two. Confirm the pack passes IEC 62133 and ships with UN38.3 paperwork so air freight samples clear customs. Finally, check that the charger carries your market’s certification (CE, UKCA or SAA) – a great pack bundled with an uncertified charger still gets pulled from shelves.
