Lithium Battery Operating Temperature Range
Lithium Battery Operating Temperature Range
The lithium battery operating temperature range is usually -20 to 60C discharge, 0-45C charge. Outside these, the BMS should limit operation.

Temperature Bands
| Mode | Range |
|---|---|
| Discharge | -20 to 60C |
| Charge | 0 to 45C |
| Storage | -10 to 35C |
Cold Care
- Avoid charging below 0C without a heated BMS.
- Capacity temporarily drops in cold but recovers.
- For cold climates, consider sodium ion battery which tolerates low temps better.
Spec with a lithium battery manufacturer for your climate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I charge in freezing weather?
Only with a low-temp charging BMS; otherwise wait for warming.
Does cold permanently damage?
No – capacity returns when warm; sustained abuse does harm.
