Silent Hours and Noise Rules
Many rural venues hold a licence conditional on noise limits after 23:00, and a genset alone can breach it. A battery system emits only cooling-fan noise, which is why some sites now run diesel for setup and switch to battery for the ceremony and the late hours. That hybrid split is the easiest first step for an operator who already owns a generator.
Lighting, Catering, and the Band
Put the aisle and festoon lighting on a small dedicated pack so a catering fault cannot darken the ceremony. Ask the caterer for nameplate ratings in advance, then decide what genuinely needs electricity — gas for hot holding removes several kilowatts at a stroke. Sound engineers care about clean waveform more than raw capacity; a good inverter delivers lower distortion than a loaded generator, and the band will notice.
Logistics Between Bookings
The practical constraint for a venue is turnaround. A pack that discharges 30 kWh on Saturday needs to be full by Friday, which is trivial on a domestic supply but needs planning off-grid. Size charging to the gap between events, not to the fastest rate the pack accepts, and keep a wheeled trolley or forklift pocket in the specification — staff will be moving it across grass in the dark.
Cost Against Generator Rental
A mid-size silent genset hire with fuel and delivery typically runs several hundred pounds or dollars per event. A venue hosting thirty weddings a season pays that thirty times. An owned battery system with comparable coverage is commonly a two-season payback, after which the marginal cost of an event is the electricity to recharge.
Safety and Permits
Insist on a certified inverter with RCD protection, proper earthing for a temporary installation, and IP-rated distribution if the pack sits outside the marquee. Keep documentation on site: insurers and licensing officers increasingly ask what is powering a public event.
