Global Energy Storage Order Surge: Overseas Breakthrough for Chinese Companies

Global Energy Storage Order Surge

In the first half of 2025, the total global orders of Chinese energy storage companies exceeded 250GWh, of which overseas markets contributed nearly 125GWh (50%). This growth is mainly driven by the accelerated global energy transition and demand for power system upgrades.

Core Data and Trends

Order Scale and Technical Advantages

Performance of Leading Companies: YWL led with 63GWh orders, Ningde Times (43.3GWh), (43.3GWh), and Ruipu Lanjun (22.5GWh) in the second and third places. BYD, Beehive Energy and 15 other companies received more than 1GWh orders.

Landmark projects:

Ningde Times supplied 19GWh Tianheng energy storage system for the RTC project in the UAE and deployed a 24GWh long-duration energy storage project in Australia.

BYD built 2.5GW/12.5GWh grid-side energy storage project in Saudi Arabia.

Technology highlights: Chinese companies win competitiveness with high energy density cells (e.g. Chuneng New Energy’s 472Ah battery) and system integration solutions (e.g. BYD’s CTS super integration technology).

Regional Market Distribution

Middle East (35.5GWh): becoming the largest demand market, with EPC companies such as China Energy Construction and China Electric Power Construction leading turnkey projects.

Europe (18GWh): During the Intersolar exhibition in Germany, Desai Battery, Hive Energy and other companies signed contracts for more than 10GWh, with cooperation covering industrial and commercial energy storage and power grid peaking.

East Asia and Australia (24GWh+33GWh): Japan and Australia have accelerated deployment, and JinkoSolar, Trina Solar and other companies have locked orders for PV energy storage.

Industry chain dynamics and challenges

Upstream material industry differentiation

Advantage of leading enterprises: Fulin Precision, Wanrun New Energy, etc. won large orders from battery manufacturers, and technical barriers consolidate market share.

Difficulties of small and medium-sized enterprises: Sinonuclear Titanium White, Chuan Jinnuo, etc. called off the lithium iron phosphate project, the industry is facing the structural contradiction of “low-end overcapacity, high-end supply shortage”.

Global blackout events to promote demand

Spain, Texas and other places in the United States large-scale blackout accident (April 2025) highlights the need for grid stability, the value of energy storage systems as emergency energy by many governments.

Future Outlook

Order Expectation: Goldman Sachs forecasts the cumulative installed capacity of global energy storage to reach 3.2TWh in 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 70%.

Localization strategy: cases such as Ningde Times Spain plant (to be put into operation in 2026) and Vision Energy Saudi Arabia JV show that Chinese companies are shifting from “product export” to “localized production” to avoid trade and avoid the risk of “localized production”. “to avoid trade barriers.

Explanation of key terms

GWh: gigawatt-hour, the unit of energy storage capacity (1GWh = 1 million kWh).

EPC: Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) model.

CTS Technology: Cell to System, a cell-to-system integration technology that reduces the number of components to improve energy efficiency.
